| Riomaggiore | Cinque Terre - how many nights? Posted: Fri July 21, 2006 02:01 AM UTC
Hi all,
Is 4 nights in Cinque Terre enough or too much time? Also, would you stay 4 nights in one town (and travel all around) or spend 2 nights in one town and 2 nights in another...? What would be best? |

I can't comment on the time span. We would certainly enjoy four nights but others might not. I would recommend staying in one town though. The train makes going from town to town so quick and easy that it makes sense to only have to pack and unpack once.
Whatever your choose, you will have a great time. It's a beautiful area and everyone is very friendly.

If you can spare the time..do it ! Vernazza would definitely be my choice. We recently stayed three nights there, did the walks, visited the other towns by train etc. On our last full day we caught the train (with one change)to Santa Margherita then then hopped on a boat Portofino as well.
Enjoy ! There is plenty to see and do or not do - up to you. Wen

Portofino is near there, too? I didn't realise... ooh...

Yep Jen, I don't think it was any more than an hour, give or take train times, and very swish, but I thought all other towns just as nice + portovenere south of the CT as well...all good.

I totally agree with Beausoleil, it only takes minutes to move by train within the 5 Terre.

I would definitely stay in one town for all the nights. As the others said, it is quick to move around.
It's difficult to comment on the 4 nights, I should know your whole itinerary and/or your main interests. You will certainly find something to do around Riomaggiore (a walk on one day, train ride to the neighbour towns on another day, relax on a beach on another day, a hike on the hills, etc.). I love Cinque Terre and have been there several times.

Thank you everyone! We're going to add Portofino to our itinerary, but still thinking it is worthwhile seeing Genoa...
Now to work out which town to stay in.
