Hello Yellowstone Chat page,

First timer to yellowstone. Flexible on times for August and September. Looking to avoid crowds (as much as possbile). I would like to go as soon as the crowds drop off in August based on my assumption that this happens due to kids being back in school but still would like to catch some decent weather. We are usually tenters but are going with an RV this time due to having a baby with us so nitetime cold is not an issue. So the quetion is when would the ideal time be between "crowd drop off" and the increased liklehod of cold daytime temps.

Part 2 - anyone with some specific campsite reccemmendations for me in the Park? Want to make this the best trip I can, of course I know it will be great anyway.

PS- I live in Colorado and do realize the extreme variation in weather that occurs due to altitiude AND and I grew up in Chicago so I can handle some cold weather.

Thanks in advance!

We've encountered snows in the higher elevations as early as late August in '92!
Agree with previous posting that Late August, early - mid Sept. are best.
Lake area has great camping as does Geyser area, check out firehole area.

Just went there, see my lodging tip for the perfect campsite! (Bridge campground)
I think Canyon campground is the most conveniently located ( it was full when I made reservations ) and looked nice also. I would not camp at Grant, because it is too far away from everything interesting
