Columbus Moving to Columbus
Posted: Thu June 26, 2003 09:10 PM UTC
We have finally decided on Columbus, Ohio. Currently, we are apartment hunting. I've heard the Short North area is very expensive. We'd like to live close to the "action" but we don't want to spend more than $600 a month for a one bedroom (preferably with a dishwasher and washer/dryer). If anyone has any suggestions, as to what realty companies or apartment complexes have good reputations, it would be a big help.

Hi Alana,

I used to live in Coumbus (Dublin and Pickerington) and it's a nice size city with quite a few things to do. I think you hit the nail on the head with the Short North as it is near the downtown area...but you are also close to Ohio State University and that area can get quite noisy.

If you have a car, I would suggest the northwest suburbs of Westerville, Upper Arlington and Dublin. Pickerington (on the southeast side) is a nice place, but is getting way overdeveloped. Another nice area is Gahanna with many apartments within your price range.

Don'e have a website for homes, but you can't go wrong by checking with the local paper (Columbus Dispatch...http://www.cd.columbus.oh.us) or the Columbus Chamber of Commerce (http://www.columbus.org).

There are also a few Columbus pages here on VT which can also provide some information. Best of luck on your move.

Sincerely,

Spartan

That is some good info. I responded to your old post. It is prob. not of much help since it seems your already in Columbus, but if you want just go over to the original forum and I gave some suggestions on places to live etc. You don't have to go to the suburbs to find a nice place. Some suburbs are more hip than others and closer to the city. Also Columbus surronds much of the suburbs therefore you can be in columbus but near another city, or be in columbus but have the school district of a suburb (haha your prob not thinking about that one yet but just in case) If you do want to be downtown near the short north and rent theres apartments opening in the arena district (www.downtowncolumbus.com) which is really nice and surronds all the nightlife. Also theres some apartments in grandview right near the lennox town center and literally just 5minutes west of the shortnorth/victorian village area. apartments and condos right on high st in the short north cost a bit. But be sure to check out anything east of high street in the Victiorian Village for rent or buy. You might find a good deal. And with being close to the "noise" from OSU students, that is overblown. The "noise" of the University area isnt really near victorian village/shortnorth area. Its 4 blocks north. In general anything from 5th avenue and south isnt too close to OSU students. Then once you get into Clintonville (north of OSU) theres some nice affordable homes.
