Bus/Train from Grodno to Vilnius Posted: Wed July 19, 2006 09:28 PM UTC
I'm thinking about a trip across Belarus in october. I found train connections with Minsk and from there to Grodno, but I was looking for some way of transportation from there to Lithuania, Vilnius or Kaunas (better the first).
From what I found online it seems there's no train connection, so I suppose there are some buses, but since I don't understand Russian nor Lithuanian, it's a bit complicated to find info on the net.
If someone can help me with some links and/or timetables (and prices maybe) I'd be very grateful! :)
Thanks in advance.
Carlo

Well, all I know is that there is a bus from Vilnius to Grodno on Wednesday at 05.40 am, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 08.00 o'clock. I still don't have any information about Grodno - Vilnius bus timetable, but as soon as I find out I'll let you know.

RE: Bus/Train from Grodno to Vilnius Posted: Sat July 22, 2006 03:36 PM UTC
It`s always hard to find a bus from Hrodna to .. anywhere...
I found bus 'Minsk-Vilnus'. It leaves from Minsk Central Bus Station at: 11am (every day), 12.30pm (every day), 4pm (every day), 6.10pm (every day).
Could not locate any trains leaving from Hrodna. May be you are better off leaving from Minsk?
There are 9 trains going to Vilnus from Minsk:
1) Trains #301 and 305 'Minsk-Vilnus' Leavig Minsk at 6.16pm and 6.30am accordingly. Arrive to Vilnus at 9.58pm and 11.00am.
2) Train #5 'Moscow-Vilnus' (every day). Leaving from Minsk at 4.13am. Arrives at 8.41am.
3) Train #147 'Moscow-Kaliningrad' (every day during summer, winter - once per 2 days). Leaves Minsk at 5.14am. Arrives at 10.15am.
4) Train #425 'Chelyabinsk-Kaliningrad' (not every day). Leaves Minsk at 4.27am. Arrives at 9.10am.
5) Train #359 'Adler-Kaliningrad' (not every day). Leaves Minsk at 6.48pm. Arrives at 10.38pm.
6) Train 311 'Harkov-Kaliningrad' (once per 2 days). Leaves Minsk at 7.37pm. Arrives at 12.48am.
7) Train #385 'Gomel-Kaliningrad' (once per 2 days). Leaves Minsk 10.26pm. Arrives at 2.53am.

There should be a bus from Hrodna to Vilnus. I found an old schedule from 2003 (not sure if it`s still the same):
Bus 'Hrodna-Vilnus' (Friday, Saturday, Sunday): leaves at 2.50pm, arrival to Vilnus at 7.55pm.

RE: RE: Bus/Train from Grodno to Vilnius Posted: Sun July 23, 2006 09:53 PM UTC
Thanks for your replies, it seems to be quite complicated... I'd really like to visit Hrodna, but going there from Minsk and than back to Minsk to go to Lithuania seems quite stupid, since I'd be already very close to the border. But it seems that public transport is still quite not good in Belarus... anyway, by now it's just an idea, I hope it can become true! :)
Thanks again!

RE: RE: Bus/Train from Grodno to Vilnius Posted: Wed July 26, 2006 05:23 PM UTC
It's not a problem to get to Vilnius or Kaunas by bus from Hrodna. No need to go back to Minsk!
The latest timetable:
"Hrodna-Vilnus" (Friday, Saturday, Sunday): leaves at 2.50pm, arrival to Vilnus at 7.55pm.
"Hrodna-Kaunas" (everyday): leaves at 3.00pm, arrival to Vilnus at 7.20pm.
Have a good trip!

Sorry, I've been mistaken. As for route "Hrodna-Kaunas" - arrival is not to Vilnus but to Kaunas, of course!

Thanks a lot Veronica, the timetable in Belarusian is not a big problem, I can read it and it's not hard to understand the names of the towns! :)
I really hope I can do that trip, but it's very expensive and long for the bureocracy to enter Belarus :(

Re: Bus/Train from Grodno to Vilnius Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 02:13 PM UTC
Yeah the buses seem to be the same, as stated on this page:
http://www.hrodna.by/html/transport/inter.shtml
I took the one to Kaliningrad, which stops in Druskininkai, and from there I took a minibus to Vilnius. There's 1 bus to Kaliningrad and 1 to Druskininkai every day, plus one direct to Vilnius only 3 days a week, if I'm not wrong. There's also a bus to Kaunas every day. Of course it's the same from Lithuania to Hrodna.
There are no trains to/from Lithuania, and there are really few trains in general there.
