1 day tour from Tokyo to Mt Fuji & Hakone
Posted: Wed July 19, 2006 11:36 AM UTC
I will be going to Tokyo again in November 2006 for a meeting and is thinking of going for a 1 day tour to Mt Fuji & Hakone. Does anyone know of a reliable tour company in Tokyo which conduct 1 day tour to Mt Fuji & Hakone for one person only (as I will be travelling alone)?

Hope someone can provide me with the relevant information. Thanks.

Regards
Victor

HI! Victor:

Off to Japan I see. If you are not adverse to referring to the Lonely Planet Tokyo, why not DIY? I visited Hakone with a friend DIY. You need to buy the train tickets (it's a private railway line, not JR's) from Tokyo to Hakone.

The first thing you could do is to drop by the Tourist Office to get info for starters @ Hakone. Tracing suggestion in the LP and the local tourist map, I made my way all the way to Lake Ashi, did the boat ride, did a detour to this museum dedicating to the "Star Prince", before ending up at a lovely local onsen before I departed back to Tokyo.

Just my 2 cents worth.

No need for a tour company (expensive). You can do it easily by yourself.
Just do the Hakone Roundcourse using the Hakone Freepass. I did it alone too. I stayed overnight in Moto Hakone at Lake Ashi but if you start early you can do it in a day from Tokyo.

Hi - You may want to take a look at these web sites (stated below) just to get an estimation of the tour packages if you're going to get a package locally. However, if you've no qualms traveling and exploring alone - then, the best way is DIY as suggested by the other members. Overall expenditure will be much lighter on the pockets as well!

Hope the above helps in one way or another.

Thanks a lot for those who responded! Really appreciate the information a lot.

Most likely I will go to hakone on my own using the hakone freepass and stay there for 2 nights at moto-hakone where most of the attractions are located.

Moto Hakone Guesthouse is a really nice Japanese guesthouse, the owner knows good English and his guesthouse is really nice. Its quite a walk up the hill from the city centre but really nice. He will also give you a self drawn map of sights and roads to follow in Moto Hakone to see everything, I followed his map and its really good !!

When I took the bus back to Odawara I also visited the castle there, it was cherry blossom time and really nice !

The Hakone Roundcourse is really nice, dont forget, when you get off the cable car at Owakudani to get outside (before you continue on the next cable car), to see, buy and eat the black boiled eggs !

Thanks to all the useful comments from VT members. I stayed at the town of Moto-hakone for 3 days and really enjoyed my trip to the Mt Fuji and Hakone area. Weather was very good, lots of beautiful scenery, friendly people, great views of Mount Fuji etc.

I have started building my VT Fuji-Hakone page and hopefully the tips and photos will inspire more people to visit this beautiful place near to Tokyo :)
