| Kalam | Swat Valley Posted: Tue July 18, 2006 10:20 AM UTC
I along with my family are planning to visit the Swat valley next week (22-30 July). Will make Kalam as my base camp. I am aware that this is the rain season; therefore my main concern is this monsoon rains.
1/ Any idea, from past travelers, how much rain to expect in this region during this period? 2/ What about road blockages, etc? 3/ Besides visiting the regular tourist spots, any side valleys that can be visited utilizing jeeps – keeping in mind that we will not be in a position to hike (2 little devils, one 4.5 years old and the other 1.5 accompanying us). 4/ Other then PTDC, any other good hotels? Thanks Amir |

Good Day Amir,
Welcome to my part of the world. Swat valley's one of the places during the monsoon rains, recieve more than enough that's why the sliding's common but very little in some parts, for a couple of minutes or an hour not more than that because it's a lush green area, unlike KKH, which's mostly dry and rocky as a result huge rocks're there on the road. Rains're there but weather's very pleasant and nights're cold somewhere like Lalazar, Mahodand so better to keep the warm clothes and rain jackets with you, so don't worry about the road balocks as I've mentioned you earlier that the area's lush green so less slides're there. PTDC's a better choice with a nice atomosphere and good cuisine. After Kalam, nice places Mahodand lakes,Day trips could be taken or to stay overnight there, excellent place. Madyan, excellent choice enroute for Kalam, Lalazar, Hotel White palace, a beatiful place for a night to see the stars, Miandam, Ushu, Atrore, Malam Jabba etc. The above mentioned places could be made by jeeps or Air con cars. Nice travels.
