Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a real phoenix local to give me the inside tips for a tv show I'm are hoping to tape in arizona. I'm trying to find a location for a segment I'm doing on what you need to do to plan a successful road trip. Ideally, the best place for this would be something with an iconic southwest look to it - highway through the desert or maybe a clay-roofed retro spot with a local charming gas station or something with a beautiful view that showcases the area. DOes anyone have any ideas? I've called tourism boards, but thought anyone who lives in Phoenix probably knows the best places! Thanks - Pheobe |

I will give it a shot. I am not a Phoenix native. However, I have day jobbed and Rodeo'd on plenty of ranches through out the area.
For the best deserrt road shots, I would suggest either the Superstition Highway (Hwy 60) between Apache Junction and Globe. If you want to film topographical changes, Highway 17 between Anthem and Flagstaff will take you from High desert to Pine forest in less than two hours. There is also the Beeline Highway (Hwy 87), which takes you through the Ft. McDowell Indian reservation. It is here on Ft McDowell that you will find La Puesta del Sol Ranch, http://www.fortmcdowelladventures.com/, which will provide you with hacienda type static backdrops for your filming. Along Hwy 88 (The Apache Trail), which is accessed via Hwy 60, you will find Goldfield Ghost Town, http://www.goldfieldghosttown.com/, and Lost Dutchman State Park, which might also be good sites for your shoots. Tortilla Flats might also be a good town location for shoots. The Carefree Highway is scenic all the way. After passing the New Waddell Dam, Lake Pleasant and about 10,000 saguaros, you'll reach 89 just a dozen miles south of Wickenburg. I hope this will help you out. I am a southern Arizona girl, so I am more familiar with Tucson and all points South and East. Take Care, Bit Devine Whispers of the West

I am not a native Arizonan but I like the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. I don't know how to get there but I am sure you can find it on the Internet.
