I am waiting on renewal of my passport still and I am worried I won't get it in time to go to Aruba! Is a US passport still mandatory or is there another form of identification that could be used? ALso, do they have ATM machines over there so that I could change money? I understand that they take American money, but what is the equivalent/differenc? thanks

This post made me second guess myself. Unless the Dept of State has revised their policies and has yet to post them, for US citizen, either Passport or proof of citizenship is ok.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/broc Dollars are widely accepted, but if you wish to convert, $1USD = 1.75 Aruban Florin (approx). I never had a problem using local bank ATM's
