Ko Tao Travel Forum

hello everybody,

i was wondering if some of you guys could recommend a couple places where i could get my PADI certification when i go to ko tao in december. i'd prefer a place where the instructor was a westerner speaking english and one that is respectable and safe. usually i would not care if my guide was western or thai, but when it comes to something like scuba, i'd rather be safe and make sure that i understand everything that is being said.

on that note, i was also wondering if people could maybe give me a suggestion or two about the best beaches to stay at/get my PADI certification on ko tao.

black tip dive resort on ao tanote is a good outfit with which to do your open water certification. they are located at ao tanote a beautiful beach with great snorkeling. you get accommodation at half price if you are a student. other good outfits are crystal dive, asia divers, easy divers to name but a few.

black tip is on ao tanote, all the others including black tip have offices/shops in mae haad as well as shops and dive scools/resorts on other parts of koh tao. easy divers operate from both koh nangyuan and mae haad. there are more than 40 dive schools on koh tao

There is a couple of really nice places to dive and stay on koh tao, the first is black tip diving but the location is really far on the other side of the island, simple life is a great place to be, i didnt do any courses there but i've been fun diving with the guys and girls there and the are really nice, they have a great location and relaxed atmosphere, all the guys at simple are either english, american or australian.
