| Tortola | What to do in 24 hours Posted: Thu July 13, 2006 06:52 AM UTC
Hi
We're off to BVI next week, for a yacht charter, but have 24 hours in tortola first. Any suggestions as to what we shouldn't miss? MJ |

Beef Island/Trellis Bay (near the airport) has a surprisingly fun little harbor & village, with the locally famous Aragorn's Studio. The Last Resort Restaurant & Cabaret has a shuttle leaving regularly from the dock, and it's a great place to spend your evening hobnobbing with other yachties who've probably got all kinds of useful tips to share. Here's a link to my VT info about Beef Island: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/683d0/1a0f11/.
You may already be planning to sail into Soper's Hole/West End, but that's the cool part of Tortola (Roadtown hasn't got the charm). In general, Tortola's a fairly large island and the traffic is crazy, so I'm not sure how much driving you'll want to do. Cane Garden Bay is justifiably famous, but if you're there when the cruise ships are in, you may as well skip it. They anchor off shore & shuttle hoards of trashy tourists on to the beach all day.

My pleasure, hope you have a wonderful trip! Sailing is THE way to see the BVI's, planning to do it that way next time if I can.

Hello,
If I may, I would have another question of what to do if I have only six hours or so? Would anyone tell us how far it is to hike from Road Town to Brewers Bay? This seems like it is not far - about 5 kilometers? We believe that the road runs through the hills. We could not find any information about the distances on the island. We are very good hikers, and we do this everywhere we go. Tell us what do you think. Thank you.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you on that one! It may help whoever answers you to know where you will be landing for your 6 hours on Tortola - will you be arriving in Roadtown?

Hello again. Yes, we will be in Roadtown early in the morning and have time until 5:00 PM. As I mentioned the plan was hiking what we always do. The only problem we have is that we are not quite sure of the distances on the island. We keep searching the internet for the information on this.
