Douglas life in douglas?

we will be moving to douglas soon.we bought 80 acres and 2 lots in lacosta estates several years ago. we come down once a year and really love douglas, but lately so many people have told us not to move to the land on gerinome trail because of all the trouble. we have waited for our last child to leave and now we want to. is there really that much trouble that we should stay away from a15yr dream?

If you're living on large acreage land near the border, you're going to have trouble with illegal immigrants. Basically everyone does outside of the more urban areas. If you go down there, most houses have bars on the windows, some even have large fences around them.
There are some really scary stories from border ranchers about illegal immigrants breaking in to their homes (sometimes while they're at home) looking for food, knocking on their door in the middle of the night, poisoning their pets or livestock, and the coyotes retaliating for calling the police.
It really is a bad situation down there right now, and the national guard thing now will probably not resolve it. Most of the activity is currently west of Nogales and near Sierra Vista, but there is still certainly plenty of activity around Douglas.
Is it worth it? It depends on how willing you are to put up with it. I wouldn't move there, personally. If you do move there, you'll certainly need to buy guns and invest in some security.
Sorry to be so negative, but that's sort of how it is here right now.

thank you for a quick response.this is going to be one really tuff decision since the land is bought and paid for. doesn't even sound like we could sell very easy.
