Ko Tao A Small Favour
Posted: Thu July 6, 2006 03:22 PM UTC
Hi, any and everyone.

I'm I Koh Tao lover, but I'm sadly not there now. In May I spent about 3 weeks wandering around, diving, and enjoying the delights of El Gringo's Cajun Chicken Fajitas.

I was sad to go, even sadder because I left something behind.

You all know the Cube clothes shop opposite Choppers in Sairee? That futuristic white one with all the cool t-shirts. Well I thought the t-shirts were so cool I wanted to buy more than my luggage allowance would let me take (a measly 20kg), so the helpful people in the shop gave me the business card of the wholesaler in Bangkok. I thought I'd check it out once I got back to Bangkok, with the idea of getting a few sent over to my home country. But bugger me if I didn't lose it.

To cut a lot of flab from the story, I need that business card! Or at least the email address on it, so as I can get in contact with the t-shirt distributors, and get them to send some to me.

So please, any of you in Sairee, or passing through it, just take 5 minutes to get that card and scan or email me the info. I will be forever in your debt!

(My picture is of my neon-paint tatoos from the Songkran Full Moon Party!)

I am going over to Thailand at the end of August so if someone else doesn't help you before then, I'll do my best to find their business card for you, although I may need reminding!! :-)

Thanks a lot, I've been trying to get one since May, but I've had no luck. Have you been to Koh Tao before? If you want any advice, I'll do my best to help.

No, never been anywhere near Thailand before - so would definitely appreciate any advice!

We're only in Thailand for 8 days so the idea is go from Bangkok down to the islands (probably Ko Pha Nan, Ko Tao, and Ko Samui - or maybe just 1 /2 of these) for a few days, and then back to Bangkok for maybe the last 1 - 2 days for a bit of shopping!! :-)

P.S. Please remind me about the business card closer to the time...

Never been before huh? You are in for a great time. As with anywhere though, keep your wits about you, especially in Bangkok. Tuk-tuk drivers will try to offer you discount tours of the city, but then take you to a government sponsered travel agents, or a tailor or jeweller. Say you've been in Thailand for months already and they won't bother you, they'll think you know the con. All taxis are supposed to be metered, but some drivers will say theirs are broken so they can massively overcharge you.

How are you getting down to the islands? The three main choices are, plane, boat coach and train. The plane is great if you can afford it, the coach is awful, avoid it, and the train is a nice compromise, you can get a flat bed, an food brought to your bunk (pick the bottom one, it's much cooler).

If I had to skip one of the three islands, Samui, Phangnan and Tao, It'd be Samui. It's been heavily developed for tourists, and some of the locals are a little bitter about it. Phangnan are and Tao are much quieter (not at the full moon party of course) and more like you'd expect a tropical island.

Thanks again for offering to get the card, it's been surprisingly difficult getting it again! Do you check this virtual tourist thing regulary? If not, I can give you my email address so I can remind you closer to the time, and then any questions you have I can answer more quickly.

The latest plan is to go straight down to Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao, and yes, skip out Ko Samui! Unfortunately we're there at new moon so definitely no Full Moon party for us, and not even the half moon party! :-( Ah well, will just have to go again!!

We land in Bangkok at 19:45 - will we be able to make the overnight train that night? Do you know what time it leaves Bangkok and how long it takes? If the train times are unsuitable, we may try flying down that same night just to save time!

I'm slightly addicted to this website (sad huh?!) so check it quite regularly, but can easily email you too. Let me know if that suits you better and what your address is.

Any specific temples that you'd recommend?

Okay, I've just arrived back from Thailand! Had an absolutely amazing time, although too short!

Got the card for you, just let me know what your email address is, and I can then scan it in for you.

Their email address is mellow_vagabond.jp@hotmail.com
I've also got their phone numbers, address and fax number if you want it.
