I am taking my girlfriend into Northern Tuscany for 4 nights, and finding it difficult to decide between Lucca or Viareggio. I intend to visit both during the trip, although unsure where to reserve accomodation. I am swayed towards Lucca, as I have found some charming B&B's and the location appears fantastic for access to Pisa, Viareggio etc... The purpose of the trip is a birthday surprise present for my girlfriend so i'd be looking for restraunts, some local charm, romance and some night life.

Thanks for that. Do you know roughly of any public transport that runs after midnight? If no, roughly how much is a taxi between, lucca and pisa, lucca and viareggio?

always rent a car, so no clue. Not going to be cheap late at night.
