hey there!
any advice from anyone much appreciated - first time travelling solo! i'm arriving in the area on 10th july...travelling alone for this leg and really want to head to the islands to learn to dive. Keen to meet new people/ backpackers, so i understand long beach on kecil is the place to head? However, bit worried that it sounds like i may not be able to get accommodation at this date....is it likely to be packed and should i stay away for now...?! I read that i can only pitch up and try, but arriving late afternoon and dont fancy sleepin in the jungle..! Anyone recommend a good/ friendly dive operator as well.. advice much appreciated! aneel |

You don't have to worry. I am sure you will meet many friends like you in Malaysia especially in Perhentian Islands

ok dear.. yes you have to worry about being sleeping at the beach or in a jungle... i was there on early may, i took boat at 2pm and i hardly get a room, if you read my travel page on perhentian, i am sure u will understand how hard it is to get a room, walk around with heavy bagpack.
my advice is... get an early boat and find a place, and if u take a boat at 2pm the chance to get a room is 40% as i was there for a few days, i been seeing many peole stay in a tent coz they didnt get any room. i dont know how to help you but i have a friends who work at rock garden chalet, if you dont want to worry about being sleeping in a jungle or by the beach at nigh, i can ask him if he can save a room for you until you arrive, this is not guarantee but i would like to help you if u want me to do so... if you would like to learn diving.. and if you prefer a cheap one, try to get a lesson at spicy diving, or padi diving. spicy might be cheap.. i heard the cost is around RM900. i can ask someone i know from there when i last went there... just give me a question, i'll ask for you... :] hey, i am a lone traveler too... i got to know many people there and i feel like home and got to know more a bit more about the island..
