| Livorno | Taxi service to Florence Posted: Tue July 4, 2006 06:23 PM UTC
Can you tell me how reliable Tuscany by Taxi is? We will be on a cruise ship coming into Livorno and thinking about hiring them for the day for a ride into Florence and possibly Pisa.

Having worked and lived in Livorno many years ago (about 15 years, but surely I'm not that old...) and having visited the port a few years ago with my family (on a cruise), I can tell you that when you get off of the ship in Livorno there will be taxi's waiting for you. They should display the price of the journey to Pisa / Florence. The Italians, for all their faults, bless 'em, do keep their word. I would suggest that a trip to Florence is too far for a day. You'll get there and then you'll be coming back. A trip to Pisa is do-able and very enjoyable. It's about 30 - 60 mins away depanding on traffic etc/ and there is enough to do when you're there. When you get to Pisa go straight to to the booking hall to book you tickets to climb the tower. You will find this, if you're looking at the tower straight on and the church is on your left, about at 10 o'clock, (between the both). There is only a number of people that they allow up the tower each day and it is important that you get your tickets as soon as you get there. Arrange with your taxi driver a time to pick you up and if he doesn't arrive, (which I'm sure he will) then there are enough cabs about to get you back to the ship. I hope you have a great time and don't forget to take loads of those silly pictures of you holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Pisa could be done in the day from Livorno.
Florence is not so far but you could risk to be on time back to Livorno and loose your cruise. Wait and check the trafic the day you'll arrive. If it'll be Saturday or Sunday you better forget the day trip to Florence. cheers

maadi, i am from livorno ;)
things unfortunately changed a lot in the last 5 years... a cab to florenc will be 100 euros if they driver is a nice man,.,, otherwise expect to pay even 200 euros one way best thing to do is to ask the cab to go to the train station and take a train it's only 10 euros return
