| Andorra | Is it worth the trip? Posted: Mon July 3, 2006 11:12 PM UTC
We will be in Lleida Oct. 9 after 4 nights in Barcelona. We have been considering driving up to Andorra just for the drive and then returning to Barcelona via Manresi. We leave from Barcelona Oct. 12 which gives us 3 nights away. We don't look for night life, rather we prefer "off the beaten path" kind of touring/holidaying. Has anyone done this drive? Is it worth the trip?

I have driven from the French side of Andorra twice. Andorra was a lovely place, the views where fabulous. The shopping is fantastic. Andorra is well worth a visit. If the ski lifts are open it worth going up the mountains, but be worned the cafes on the mountain are VERY VERY espensive. It's quite a small place and if you are not skiing or walking 3 days may be too much. If you go hope you enjoy yourselves.

Hi! I've just come back from Andorra. If you stick to the main valley it's far from being 'off the beaten path' in fact the place is absolutely mobbed with shoppers. And unfortunately, most of the shopping is of the sort you'd get in airport duty free shops (perfume and cigarettes). I'm gonna offend many people by saying this, but I'll go as far as saying the towns are very ugly! And if you're looking for unique culture, forget it, its all aimed to foreigners. Guaranteed there'll be someone posting saying i'm wrong, but if you have to go searching for it, whats the point?
However, once you leave the main valley and head into the mountains, the place is really beautiful. Try to avoid ski resorts unless you want fries served with your food. Andorra has fantastic hiking, and its one of my favourite places so far. So basically, if you want to go hiking in the mountains, go for it. If you intend on sticking to the valley, steer clear (unless you're looking for tax free shopping).
