| Queenstown | Shopping advice in Queenstown Posted: Mon July 3, 2006 02:01 PM UTC
Hi, I'm thinking of coming to Queenstown in late July/early August to try the hand at skiing and snowboarding with my three adult/teen kids.
We've got good looking quotes from Ski Express to stay at the Mercure with all in ski and lesson packages and so on, the only ingredient missing are the clothes. Coming from Hong Kong, we don't normally need much in the way of ski apparel! Any pointers as to the cost of reasonable (I mean warm, not the most fashionable!) ski suits, gloves and so on would be welcomed. Or even if it's possible to hire such kit (though I'd doubt it from a hygiene point of view). Cheers! |

I can't remember if you are able to rent ski clothes in Queenstown. If no one else gets back to you, but I am sure someone would, perhaps check with Mercure or give a few ski rental companies a call and ask about ski clothing rental. Stores in Aust hire out ski jackets and pants but not beanies, gloves and goggles due to hygiene purposes, so perhaps you are able to do the same in NZ.
I would imagine, unless on sale, ski clothing would be quite expensive to purchase in NZ.

Thanks for the tip. I've made arrangements with the ski company I'm travelling with to rent pants and jackets. Rental for the week is about third the cost of buying in HK but as I we don't ski that often and it saves on baggage, it makes sense to rent down there. Cheers for your help

You will need thermals, gloves, scarves and hats, which you can buy in the major city you fly into. You can also pick up great bargains for these things at the local Queenstown, Salvation Army Shop, then give them back when you leave.
