| Bolzano | Regarding buying tickets Posted: Mon July 3, 2006 11:29 AM UTC
I tried to get our tickets online with de Bahn and it would not take our phone number. I put it in with area code - we live in Orlando Florida. I kept asking for area code or country. Can you advise how to put our phone number in. Thank you

The country code for the US is 1 or 01, depending on the site preference.
I don't understand why you want to purchase tickets from de bahn. If you are coming to Bolzano from Austria, better option is to buy one ticket from Innsbruck to Brennero, and another from Brennero to Bolzano. Train fares in Italy are 1/3 as much as in Germany / Austria. Train leaves Brennero every 45 minutes, and you can buy a very cheap ticket from the electronic vendor at the station. ciao !

Maybe if you post your travel plans it would be easier to help. In many cases (such as in most German and Austrian trains) there is no necessity to buy tickets in advance, unless you get a discounted advance fare (like 19 Euro Summer Specials). The trains don't require reservation and can't sell out. In Italy you would need a reservation for Eurostar and ICPlus trains, but not (necessary) for others.

We are flying into Munich. Should we wait until we get there to buy tickets and should we get a ticket from Munich to Brennero?
Thank you

We fly into Munich on 7/6 and then travel to Corvara, Italy on 7/8. We plan to visit Venice, Florence and probably Rome whild we are in Italy from 7/8 - 7/15. On 7/15 we travel from Corvara to Isola, France. On 7/22 we travel to Paris until 7/26. On 7/26 we go back to Munich to fly out on 7/27 in the morning. We don't have any train reservations at this point. What are your suggestions.

Based on your itinerary, it appears that you have much ground to cover. You definately should buy tickets from Munich to Bolzano in advance. I was thinking that you were spending more time in Trentino. Try entering your phone number starting with '01' followed by your area code.

I read about BahnCard. There are 4 of us traveling. 2 adults, 1 youth and 1 child. Do each of us have to have one?

If you were arriving in Munich on the weekend, you would be able to take advantage of the family train travel specials. During weekdays there are also family packages. I believe that the card you refer to is for up to four people riding for one price ( excludes the high speed express trains ). Therefore, only one card would be needed for your family. However, first make sure that this is the case.

No, you are referring to the weekend- or Länder-tickets. The BahnCard is a discount card that gives you 25 or 50% discount on all rail tickets in Germany for 1 year. The BahnCard 25 costs about 50 Euro and BahnCard 50 about 200 Euro. None of the BahnCard sorts is required for buying the tickets but if you have one tthey become cheaper. And yes, each card is valid only for 1 person. On the other hand, children of 14 and below can travel free of charge if accompanied with paying adult.
