My son is travelling to Canberra tomorrow - and, as all parents know, we don't actually know anything - so, can any Canberran or recent visitor please advise how warmly he will need to dress - and the types of warm clothing to ideally take? Thanks.

Winter clothes . Its been as cold as minus 5 oC recently. While there has been a bit of rain it has been dry mostly. Days tend to be clear and fine in sun cold in shade.

On the basis that he is a very good boy and intending to be in bed by 7pm ( in by 6) then light jacket will be fine !!!!

If he intends being out later then that then he will need something heavier .. especially as (i presume) he is coming down from Brisbane)

It will be icy cold particularly at night and morning and cold during day, will need a very warm coat and singlet,warm socks and a jumper , do not forget the rain coat. Enjoy

Ahhh - thanks for that - hadn't even launched into the raincoat "issue". He thinks he can go there and get around like he does in Queensland. Do I let him learn the hard way, hold him to ransom and refuse the drive to the airport, or just sneak them in his bag!!?

Let him learn the hard way - it wont kill him but he'll feel it !

Nah - ended up just TELLING him to take the thick jacket I had bought - and he can lie about whether he needed it or not! I was driver to the airport, so he sensed little choice! Thanks for your advice! He taking off around about now - please don't tell me its unseasonally hot there today!

A few years ago on our visit to Canberra, (about this time of year), we were scraping ice off the windscreen every morning and peering through thick freezing fog till mid-day. It was warm for a coule of hours in the afternoon but went cold again about 4.00pm.

He came home stubbornly admitting he needed the clothes - and said all the Queenslanders were **** freezing! He now understands why I've been "stocking up" on scarves and warm items for his move there!
