| Jeju-do | Accomodation Recommendation Posted: Thu June 29, 2006 09:07 AM UTC
Hi, I'm travelling to Jeju-do in August. Is there any recommended accomodation. Preferrably some Guesthouse or minbak, B and B or something of the like.

Check out my Jeju-Do page for suggestions.
Personally, I suggest the pensions. Much nicer than a Motel or Minbak but also more expensive. In general, it's rather difficult to recommend a Motel or Minbak in Korea. Firstly, it's due to the missing street system (even if people give you an address, you probably won't be able to find it!) and secondly because there are literally hundreds of Motels around... even on Jeju-Do. Same probably applies for a Minbak, even though I have never stayed at any and don't know that much about it. Maybe other VTers can tell you more... If you're on a tight budget, the pensions will probably be too expensive for you. In this case, my recommendation is to simply travel to Jeju-Do, rent a car and hit the road (the money on the car is well spent!). Once you get tired, just keep your eyes open for the next best Motel. The differences are usually not that big. Anyway, have a look at my VT Jeju-Do page first and see whether my tips prove useful. Cheers, Robert

Hi, My family of 3 will be visiting Jeju in Dec. We love to stay in one of the many pensions. Unfortunately, can't make a booking here from Singapore as all the websites are in Korean! Any way to get arounbd this?

Actually, that's a big problem in Korea. Pensions usually don't have English websites and the staff also usually doesn't speak much English. Hence, foreigners tend to stay at the hotels.
However, there are three choices you can consider: 1. Check out the below website (copy & paste). It's about packages within Korea: http://english.tour2korea.com/04Bookings/tourpacka 2. Come to Korea and ask your hotel in Seoul (I assume you'll stay for at least one night in Seoul, right?!) to help you book a pension on Jeju-Do. As long as you're not traveling over a public holiday it shouldn't be a problem to get a room. 3. Be adventurous and fly to Jeju-Do and just drop by the pension you like and check in on spot without prior reservation. Again, as long as it's not a publuc holiday, it should be ok. Well, another option could be to find someone in Singapore who speaks/reads Korean. ;-) Cheers, Robert
