I would say the nearest sandy beach is Weston-Super-Mare, which is around 15 miles away on the Bristol Channel.

As for nice restaurants, there seemed to be a number of attractive restaurants in the Clifton area of Bristol. It is a pretty area of the city near the famous suspension bridge. Maybe check the Restaurant tips here on Virtual Tourist.

Clevedon about 7 miles past Clifton Suspension Bridge heading out of Bristol is probably ur nearest - its a bit Rocky & not a conventional beach but u get some staggering views at Sunset of the sun setting over Wales.

Weston-Super-Mare is the closest traditional beach - about 20 mins away by car. Its not fantastic - infact its pretty muddy - but dont let that u put u off. Also WSM has the second highest tide in the world!
