RE: Transportation from Munich airport to Passau, Germany Posted: Wed June 28, 2006 07:20 PM UTC
Utter rip-off. If you do not have too much luggage, you could do the same trip for roughly 40 USD one way with public transport and taxi.
You would have to buy a Bayern Ticket in advance for the day you want to go from www.bahn.de. Price is 25 EUR for up to five people travelling togehter. The ticket is valid from 9 am onwards to 3 am the next day and covers unlimited travel within the local trains on mvv (S-Bahn, ie S1 and S8 included) and the local trains of Deutsche Bahn (trains from main train station Munich to main train station in Passau).
From Munich airport take S1 or S8 to Muenchen Hbf (main train station) and catch a local train to Passau. www.bahn.de will give you the schedule. They have an english language option, search for it. From the train station in Passau you can either take a short Taxi ride to the cruise or walk. Walking will be a bit cumbersome with heavy and large luggage, so you need to choose what is best for you.
Be aware that if you arrive very early in the day, you cannot use Bayern Ticket. You'll have to pay the full train fare from Passau to Munich. www.bahn.de will tell you how much this is.
