Bilbao Safety

Hello VTers!!

I've heard some very mixed reports about safety in Bilbao, and lots of people have stressed the presence of ETA in that area. Compared to other international cities, how does Bilbao rank on the safety scale?

FYI: ETA declared a permanent ceasefire a few months ago. It does not mean it's over, but there is hope.

As a tourist, you'll probably will notice anything. I've been there many times and never had a single problem. This does not mean that something can happen, but Bilbao is not unsafe. In fact I think is much safer for a tourist than many other cities.

Just be careful about what you say about the food.

They are passionite about it!

Walk, see, enjoy, and most of all, eat. It is a wonderful, SAFE place!
