Shkoder Transport in Northern Albania (Shkoder/Theth/Varmoshi/Tropoja/Fierza...)
Posted: Tue June 27, 2006 10:54 PM UTC
Hello!

First of all thanks for the previous replies!

We are looking for some extra info about the transportation/paths/roads or any other info with regards to small villages and places in: Northern Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia. Me and my friend Jiři will be there between the 15th and the 30th of July.

In Albania, from Shkoder and through intermediate stops, we would like to reach: Vermosh, Rraphe, Paplukut Mountain, Jezerces Mountain, Ragam, Dragobi, Shohan, Rupes Mountain, Markofces Mountain, Tropoje, Peshkopi, Lura e Vjeter, Merkuth, Klos, Qafa e Shtylles and Dajt.

In Macedonia we would like to visit Mavrovsko Ezero. We also would like to know which is the place place to cross the border between Albania and Macedonia.

Finally on our way to/from Albania we would eventually make a stop to see: Skadarsko jezero, V. Ostros, Livari and Murici.

Thanks a lot!

Franco & Jiři

Hi Franco and Jiri, Those areas of Northern Albania are totally amazing - I've been most places you mention by jeep ( best) and car ( with difficulty but we survived it!). The roads are not surfaced - or those that are have a surface for a few km only!Don't underestimate the time it all takes - the distance looks short on a map but it takes many many hours due to the conditions. A MUST - take the ferry boat from Koman to Fierze - it takes you ( and vehicle) along the river from near Shkoder ) again judge the time it takes from town to boarding place - we almost missed the boat - to south of Bajram Curri in Tropoje. One day, in about 100 years time, this river trip will be one of Europe's top touristic gems. It is magic now, but totally basic conditions and forget about health and safety issues - our car was roped on the back as the ferry was so full already!! The scenery is the best anywhere in Europe. Narrow deep green river with wild steep cliffs and mountain peaks. Read Robert Carver's The Accursed Mountains before you go to get a feel!! I think your itinery is too long for the time you have, due to the travelling conditions.
It will amaze you by the minute,
Rona

Hello
You can see in www.outdooralbania.com
In Dajt you can go with teleferic by Tirana city, only 17 min.
In Lura , with small bus "furgon",from Tirana to Rreshen-Kurbnesh-Merkurth- Lure. Its very beutyfull view but is problem for accomodim. You can stay in village house.
For all destination you can find by Tirana city.
