Trier is actually pretty easy...
The Porta Nigra is central to your tourist travels there. Most everything (including shopping) that you will want to see is within a good healthy walk of there.

If you are here for music, one of our local treasures is the Himmerod Abbey near Wittlich. They are famous for their organ and bringing in world-class organists from around the world.

I think you will find Trier pretty easy. It is not that large of a city, but large enough to keep you busy.
