| Suffolk | Moving to Suffolk this summer Posted: Fri June 23, 2006 05:12 AM UTC
We are moving to Suffolk this summer from Germmay.
Any recommendations on where to live? We are especially looking for a town with a good soccer program for our 9y/o. |

Suffolk is a large, pleasant county, Ipswich being the county town. Where you live will depend on where you want to work and what sort of property you can afford (some parts of Suffolk are expensive), so more detail would be helpful.
As far as football goes, most towns and larger villages will have youth teams your son can join (training sessions and matches at weekends/wekday evenings). There are also football-training clubs after school, some run by schools and some by outside coaches. Towns and larger villages may well have outside-run courses in the evening. When you get here I suggest you look in the local paper, ask local parents and in the local library to find out what is available. Your son will certainly get lots of information from his peers when he starts school in September!

Surely it all depends on where you'll be working...

You have lots of lovely places to choose from. Cambridge and Ely are the nearest cities (Ely is really a beautiful large town with a cathedral), Thetford, Bury-St-Edmunds, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Downham Market are some of the towns nearby; there are lots of villages too. Google any of these places (the UK pages only on www.google.co.uk) for example 'ely property rent' and you'll get links to local estate agents so you can see what's available (I am assuming you are renting rather than buying). Each place will also have some sort of local information site if you google it. Do take into consideration how you intend to travel to work; public transport is likely to be limited, petrol is very expensive (around 1 GBP per litre) and journeys will take longer than they seem on the map (congestion/ narrow roads etc). You will save time and, probably, money by living near to Lakenheath.

It's near the border with Cambridgeshire, so this will help you see what towns etc are nearby but not in Suffolk.
