Placencia Village Lodging in Placencia, Belize

We are considering Kitty's Place or the Maya Breeze Inn in late July and early August. Any experience-based recommendations?

Kitty's Place is about 3 mi from the village of Placencia & it's a long hot walk unless you have a vehicle. Kitt'y's is good for couples who want privacy but no village or night life (also expensive). Staying in the village is alot more fun. Try Lydia's guesthouse, Harry's cabanas, j-byrds cabins. All are resonable & right on the beach. Find out where "malu" is doing her bbq & don't miss it!

We took a look at Kitty's and loved it, but they didn't have any rooms or cabins available in our price range. It's definitely the nicest place that's sort of close-ish to town. There are plenty of other places right in town too. We stayed at the West Wind and were happy.

Maya Breeze... without question. Just stay away from Barnacle bills or Ocean's Edge. Both are total disasters. Kitty's is a nice place if you stay in any of the Craboo lodgings.

I don't know why this person is bad mouthing Barnacles and Ocean's Edge. I have been to Maya Beach now four times in the past 2 years and both of those places are the nicest places to stay IF you want a modern, clean, well kept place to stay. These both offer complete kitchens, up to date bathrooms. They are ideal places to stay if you like to be "self sufficient" and not have to rely on restaurants for your meals. Of course, if you want to go out every morning and night for meals, you should stay in Placencia - there are more choices to go out to eat. In Maya Beach you will have peace and quiet, and a few VERY NICE places to drink and eat and hang out with some the of the nicest folks you'll find. Whoeve this is that is "bad mouthing" Barnace Bill's and Ocean's Edge must have a personal vendetta. You won't find anybody in Maya Beach to give any credence to the comments listed in his "reply". Both places are beautiful. I have pictures if anybody is interested!! The folks who manage these places couldn't be more accomodating and helpful to deal with.

There are so many places in Placencia its hard to pick. Check out www.placencia.com for all links and coionections. If you want air-conditioning and cooking in, with modern clean rooms at a good price, Easy Living Apartments is pretty close to ideal. Close to the beach (50 feet), near the main road (a block down a sandy path), and near Jake's Purple Space Monkey, and a few other really good spots to eat.

Take a look at www.placencia.com there is a map, Maya Breeze is 10 miles from the village, try to get between Placencia and Seine Bight then you are close enough to visit the villages, but not right in all the noise. Taxis from Maya Beach are expensive and there is really nothing up there except expats. No choice of restaurant etc.

I have to agree with you OStan! To truly 'get' Placencia, you have to stay in the village and be able to stumble back to your room on foot from dinner & after dinner entertainment on the beach!
