My sister is having a winter wedding and had her heart set on going to Tahiti for her honeymoon in mid december for two weeks. However, I recently researched the weather patterns in Tahiti and found out about El Nino. According to the website, theres a ton of rainfall and humidity in December. Is this true? Has anyone went to Tahiti in december/january ?

Your sister can expect rain every day in December, that is true. We usually avoid being in Tahiti in the winter, but one year, my daughter wanted to go during winter break and for the three weeks she was there, it rained every day. She couldn't even go sit by the pool and came back with paler skin than before she left.

beside el nìño itself, december is not low-season for nothing, except xmas (expensive everywhere), fares are low. You sister may go to austral islands, it's the right time to go there, by plane is less than two-hour flight from Tahiti (Rurutu: 1hr 30, Tubuai: 1hr 45, Raivavae: 1hr 45).
They are five round shaped high islands, some of which are surrounded by a coral reef and motus (islets). Their preservation and their relative remoteness give them an authenticity and a quality of life that the most adventurous tourists begin to discover, for a moment outside of time, often staying in guest houses or with the inhabitants.
Unfortunatelly no whales watch in December, it's from the end of July to mid October but it pretty cold those months.

hi,december is very hot and humid time to go !rains every day,but usually just a quick mid-day shower for 5/10 mins then back to sunshine !
also if you want the paradise type beaches,then bora bora or moorea maybe,as tahiti island has black sand !
