Hi,
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Now we are going on the trip of a life time and I can't wait. soooo looking forward to it. We decided to spend a week in Sarawak, visiting Kuching, river trip to Batang Ai, orangutan sanctury, Damai beach, cultural village. Then we are off to Sabah, where we are staying in the Rasa Ria. From here we are taking side trips to Sandakan and Danum Valley Conservation area. We are spending 3 days around Sandakan, doing Sepilok, Kinabatangan river cruise ( which I am now really looking forard to after all your good reports about it) and turtle island. Staying for 3days at Danum valley at the Borneo rainforest lodge where we will be doing canopy walkways, nature walks, night walk etc. Added on some days at the Rasa Ria at the end, to relax and also hoping to book a trip to Kinnabalu National park from here and generally explore the surrounding area, Kota Kinnabalu etc.. On the way home we have a stop over in Kuala Lumpur to get some city life. Can't wait for it. Thanks for everyone's suggestions, tips etc.. The only thing I wanted to ask, is I've not heard many people talk about Danum Valley, can anyone give me more info about what it's like? Also, what's the chance of seeing wild orangs here? Anyone stayed at the Rainforest Lodge? Alos, will it be easy to book a trip to Kinabalu national park from our hotel during our last few days? We've not pre-booked this and we wanted to leave some things flexible. Thanks again, and for making me so excited about our trip! Kels xxx |

Wow Borneo - that was my first trip 13 years ago and I'm hooked on S.E. Asia. Have not been to Danum Valley yet, will go someday. Been to Sabah and Sarawak and K.L. You will love Sepilok - Kinabantagan river. Kuching is a great place to say in Sarawak - don't get stuck at expensive hotels (unless you want to spend the money), it is not necessary. Mt. Kinabalu is awsome - when you get to KK you can go to the park headquarters and book Kinabalu. If you want to stay on the Mt. you would want to book ahead of time. There are many places on the Mt. that are not part of the national park and you can stay there and then have a driver take you to the park. I suggest staying at the park. You will see tons of animals on the Kinabantagan, wild orangutans, Proboscus, macaques, hornbills, snakes, etc..... I love the river and can't wait to go back. In Sepilok there is a homestay right outside the park entrance - it is basic but you can just walk to the park and not have to spend your time traveling from town. Not much to do in town,
Go to my website and check out the photos on my main page, you will see sites from our trips. Golddragonimports.com Have an awesome time!!!!!

Leeches - they aren't too bad unless they get in your armpit (- night jungle walk on the Kinabantagan) If you are like me mosquitoes will love you. What I do is take with me a medication from home called Zirtec (sp??) it is an antihistimine and it keeps me from itching. I still get attacked but don't itch and can sleep thru the night. Also, take your antimalarial just to be on the safe side.

I have stayted at the Danum Valley Borneo Rainforest Lodge, it was fabulous, there was an orang utan sitting in a tree one morning and we just sat and watched him for hours, the day before we visied a herd of wild elephants had been there too
the place is teeming with wildlife and the rangers are well informed and really helpful, dont forget your torch for the night drives I was the only one in our party to get a Tiger Leech, it was spotted just before it disappeared under my armpit LOL I still have my certificate of blood donation
