Hi Siva,
You should check out my travel page on Waterton (not one of the Top 5, but it should be! lol) There is lots of good info there about Waterton.
We did the Crypt Lake Hike in 1993. It was spectacular, I highly recommend it. I have several pictures of the Crypt Lake Trail on my Waterton page. To do the Crypt Lake hike, you need to catch the first boat over, which departs at 10:00 am. Phone them to see if you can reserve a spot on the boat in advance. The day we were there, they had so many tourists for the 10 o'clock boat, they almost never let us on. When they found out we were just going as far as Crypt Lake, they agreed to let us on the boat.
When we did the hike, you could still camp out at the top, near Crypt Lake. You can't do that anymore. That's why you have to get the first boat in the morning. You need the whole day to hike up to the lake and back down, in order to catch the last cruise boat back to the village. It seems to me that the return boat stops at Crypt Lake at about 5:30 pm. (Being that we camped overnight, we caught an boat back earlier in the day.)
Also, on my home page, you will find useful tips on what to do in the event of a bear (or other wildlife) encounter. If you have limited experience in this regard, you may want to read that, too. I can almost guarantee you will see bears while in Waterton.
Enjoy your trip to Waterton. If I can help further, please email me.
Cheers,
- Tanis
