Now now! No all parts of Essex are the same. There's a big difference between Southend and Tilbury, for example. Ot Pitsea and Thaxted!

There are much nicer parts of Essex, but I suppose for a youngster it would be tolerable. There might be a couple of nightclubs. I understand that the main form of entertainment is the boy racers who cruise up and down the promendae on a Friday night. There is reasonable shopping, and a couple of theatres. The beach is awful (nearly as bad as the football team :)). I would say that the best thing in Southend is the railway line, which can get you to Central London in just under an hour.
