the clue is to look for (or read on) Cebu City. everything (including beach resorts) will be nearby! Mandaue is a city yes but its actually right beside Cebu City that you don't anymore know where is where or which is which!

its like you think you are going to Manila but your plane lands in Pasay City (and yes, half of the runway is on Paranaque City) then you drive along to your hotel that is actually in Makati City and you shop at the SM Mega-Mall which is in Mandaluyong City or a few meters away to Robinson's Galleria Mall which is in Quezon City and go to witness spectacular sunsets at the bay which is in Manila City. All these are in Metro Manila commonly referred to by locals and visitors as "Manila". And indeed it does not matter as everything is just a cab or jeep or MRT or LRT ride away!

and cebu is no diffrent. you land at the Cebu International Airport that is actually in the city of Lapulapu where you cross a bridge to Mandaue before you actually drive on to the city of Cebu! ah yes, btw, the province that contains all these is also called cebu!

more of like looking for literature, photos and information about westminster, knightsbridge, mayfair, bayswater or kings cross that can be had if i searched on "london". thats how it is!

you'll probably wow your girlfriend and her family with a fine dinner at the Shangrila Mactan. That's a 5-star resort hotel in the city of Lapulapu (mactan island - where the airport is - which actually is just some drive away after crossing the Mactan Bridge from Mandaue)! that's the most expensive hotel/resort in cebu actually. or you can pick any of the resorts and restaurants that abound in the island. plantation bay, costabella, cebu beach club, tambuli, maribago, etc., are nice choices too! just pick what suits your pocket.

If the Delta Philippine Dream is still alive (i think it is), that should be a finer option. Its a ship converted into a hotel with fine restaurant and casino and a "videoke lounge" where your girlfriend's family will surely have a ball singing "matud nila"! yes, people from this place (or the country for that matter) seemingly can't call it a great night without singing! they/we sing for just about anything - even including funerals! so do prepare yourself to belt out even just john lennon's "imagine" or "ebony and ivory". but if you can master frank sinatra's "My Way" you will be a hit - I promise!

another good choice is the new Hilton Cebu. quite luxurious. and yes, it is also in the island of mactan.

in the city (of cebu - sorry mandaue seems low in this category), you can bring the pack to Waterfront Lahug. The Waterfront Hotel at the airport (although grand with a casino) will not fit your needs as it is far and rather businesslike.

another fine choice would be to pick any of the restaurants at "The Village" - its a block of night-places right beside the Waterfront Lahug. You can choose from the lively, to a quiet coffee place, to a "disco" and a place that does "acoustic music". its also a pick-up place hehehe!

when all else fails... you can bring everyone to "CnT Lechon" just accross the SM City Mall! Its just the best place to have lechon! (go ask the GF what lechon is!)

when its you and the girlfriend, and when the romance must sparkle, try Badian Island Resort! Its just splendid! but far into the northern portion of the province.

finally... don't search for Mandaue... search for Cebu... everything will be just nearby!

enjoy your visit!

P.T. i think Phil Dream is closed already. I'm with you on Shang-rila Mactan. I'm not so sure about Waterfront though. The food is not that good. Although the g.f.'s family might be impressed with the facade of the hotel esp. if the guy takes them there for dinner. it does look somewhat like a fairytale castle from afar. :)

If the family is numerous you can take them to Krua Thai in Crossroad Mall, Banilad, Cebu City.
