Oxford how carry luggage from luton to oxford
Posted: Fri June 16, 2006 09:38 AM UTC
Dear friends,
I am arriving to Luton airport with a group of friends in a week. We have rented an economic car to go to Oxford, but we afraid it is to small for our luggage (we are 5 girls). Any idea about what we can do?
There is any lockers where we can leave the luggage that won´t have room in the car and come back next day to take it? There is any way, not expensive, to send the luggage from luton to london?
By the way, do you know how long it takes from Luton airport to Oxford?

Hi,
You can either get a bigger car, which is possible if available at the rental counter or I would suggest the following. Put as many people or luggage in the car as you wish then have the left over people take the train to Oxford. The drive will take without traffic a little over 1 hour. The train will take around 2.5hrs. This will help you in not having to return to the airport to pick up left luggage.
The train tickets should cost around 6 pounds one way per person. Do the math and figure out which is cheaper;the bigger car or the train tickets.
Cheers!!!

Oops. Sorry. I made a mistake on the price of the train tickets when I typed them. The price is around 29 pounds. It might be cheaper to get a bigger car.
Cheers!!!

By far the cheapest and easiest way will be to upgrade to a bigger car. Train fares or left luggage and extra petrol costs will cost much more, I expect.

If you have rented the car from one of the major companies you can probably swap it back for a smaller one once you are in Oxford.

Have a great time in Oxford - it is gorgeous here at the moment!

Oh, and it is normally a little over an hour to drive, but UK traffic is unpredicatable and often bad so you always have to allow extra time!

Why spend your cash on train tickets etc. There is a drop off car park right outside the airport. Put 4 people & as much luggage as you can into the car. The person left over goes back into the airport with the leftover luggage and puts their feet up in one of the cafes. The journey takes about 1 1/4 hours, but be aware there are roadworks in the Headington Area of Oxford which are causing long delays. Link to website

Not sure if you know Oxford, but there are number of restricted streets for cars which means detours. Not as bad as it sounds once you know the route. Parking is also difficult & very expense in the city centre. Another link

Happy motoring & if you need anymore help or advice send me an email.
