Pulau Redang Pulau Redang - Which hotel do you recommend and how do I get around?
Posted: Tue June 13, 2006 09:30 AM UTC
Hi, I've been reading about Redang Island, but still don't understand how to get around on the island. Aren't there any roads and taxis? How do I get from one beach on the West Side to beaches on the East Side? Are there boat taxis? Are they expensive? I was thinking of staying at Berjaya Redang Beach Resort. Is this a good Hotel? How do we get from there to other beaches?

Thanks!!!

HI! Michael:

Yes, there are roads on P.Redang. Taxis? Did not even see one. Neh...you probably will have a pay someone for a "motorbike" taxi to get you from point to point. The notion of a resort on the Malaysian isles to be "away from it all". If you go to P.Tioman, some villages are only connect by ferries (or at least during the time I was there). Totally unlike the islands of Thailand.

The Berjaya Redang is the best resort on the island. Review of it on my P.Redang page if you care to take a look.

The only means for you to move around is by boat. If you stay at chalets, boat trip to snorkelling spot or island hopping is not expensive. Since you are staying at Berjaya, it may cost you more. Try to be friendly with the beach boys and get the best deal. Berjaya is indeed the best hotel usually selected for those going for honeymoon. Redang is truly a beautiful island... enjoy the marine life there!

Hi!

I stayed at Berjaya when I went Redang last year. It is the best resort on the island and costs resonable. It has its own private beach which is a lot cleaner than the other site and has its own "bridge" which allows you to walk out into the sea for a short distance. You can sit there, dip your legs in the waters and just chill. Its rooms are clean and beautiful like a hotel.

From Berjaya, I had no problem visiting other parts of the island. Right outside the resort, at the side of the road, is a resturant. You can book a day guide with them. We had our own speed boat and guide who took us snorkling in less crowded areas. They also took us to a place to see turtles and their nesting place which was also a conservation project site.

When our boat was there, I saw a pair of huge turtles mating above the waters but they dived down immediately when they saw us! As I am a strong swimmer, my guide took me underwater with him to swim with the turtles.

We also went to the other side of the island where the Hong Kong movie "Summer MoMo Tea" was filmed. There, we could see baby sharks and large fishes.

Redang has the most beautiful beaches and clearest waters I have ever seen in my life! Have fun and enjoy every minute of it!!!!

Regards,
Pearlyn
