| The Grampians | Need suggestion Posted: Tue June 13, 2006 04:56 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I are planning to visit the Grampians this coming July but she hates walking and not interested in doing climbing. Is there something around there for us to do? I personally don't mind walking and climbing but since my gf doesn't like like it I need to find activities that is not too physically exhausting. Is is ok to visit the area in July since it will be in the middle of winter. Thank you very much for your advice. |

It will be cold at the Grampians at that time of year, rug up!!!
Most that go there do so for the walking/climbing/scenery. Apart from the walks etc, the only other activity I can think of is sitting in front of an open fire drinking a good local wine, or sitting in a Spa doing the same:) It is a lovely placeto visit.

A lot of the sights in the Grampians only require a short walk though. The walk to McKenzie Falls, the Balconies and Boroka Lookout can be done within half an hour. It will be pretty chilly though and wet probably.

Yes it will be cold (maybe 10-15 degrees Celcius during the day and down to 0-5 at night). Hopefully you can stay somewhere nice where you can sit inside in front of an open fire and watch the wildlife from your window. I could recommend Boroka Downs - its a bit pricey but we could watch mobs of kangaroos and emus passing by our windows all day. There is great bird life down there - great flocks of brightly coloured parrots, rosellas and lorikeets etc. Hopefully you will also have a car - you can drive to the Great Ocean Road and there are some wineries in the area. There are some nice restaurants in the area - The Royal Mail Hotel at Dunkeld is well known. One word of caution - watch out for the wildlife when your driving - especially in the evening. Kangaroos kept jumping out in front of us and we had a beautiful owl fly headfirst into our windscreen which was very upsetting. Hopefully your girlfriend will get out and at least do a couple of short walks - its great just to get up so close and personal with so many kangaroos and wallabies in their natural environment. Enjoy!

Walking and climbing, that is what the Grampians are there for.
If gf does not like doing these things then may I suggest you consider leaving gf at home and take someone else along with you who does enjoy walking.
