Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Yogyakarta To go or not to go
Posted: Mon June 12, 2006 02:31 PM UTC
Dear all,

I have a flight to Solo by Air Asia for 6-11/7 mainly to visit Yogja and Borobudur. With the earthquake and volcano rumblings, I've been advised to forget the trip. Can anyone tell me a bit about the situation? Air Asia claims that they continue to fly to Solo and there are no problems there.

I'm sorry if this question sounds insensitive.

Rgds,
eugenetan

hi eugene...

it is ok to go to jogya... except that you have to note that prambanan is closed to visitors for the time being as it is affected by the earthquake... other tourist sights are slightly or not affected and are still open...

regards.chia

Hi Eugene,

If i were you, I'd based myself in Solo ( I much prefer this place to Yogya, even before the earthquake)and have a gd time. Solo is some distance away from Merapi so it should be alright. Lots of other temples to check out in the Solo area - check out Candi Sukuh and the surrounding area there, it's pretty amazing.

Thanks to everyone for info.

Yes, Ofa, I will be coming to Yogja. Since I have only a few days, I will mainly be a tourist - that is hopefully my way of contributing to the place.

But I also appreciate it if you could update me on places to go, eat, stay etc. Who knows if I am free, I can volunteer....

Eugene
