Riomaggiore Transportation from La Spezia to Riomaggiore (Cinque Terre)?
Posted: Mon June 12, 2006 01:11 AM UTC
I'll be traveling by train from Florence to Cinque Terre, and notice that the train only goes as far as La Spezia. How do you recommend getting from La Spezia to any of the towns in Cinque Terre--bus, taxi or some other local train I don't know about? Also, since I will be leaving again from La Spezia, I thought it would be most convenient to stay in Riomaggiore, the closest of the 5 cities, but is there any reason you would advise against it, or recommend another town instead? Thanks so much for your help. Jeff

Jeff, are you using www.trenitalia.com for scheduling? The Cinque Terre are definitely served by trains, and I am concerned that you were looking at the eurail site or raileurope site or another site that is a travel agency and not the official site of the national railroad.

my daughter changed in La Spezia for the train direction Genoa, no problem. Howver, there may be a bit of a layover which she encountered going one of the two ways.

Jeff - LaSpezia is the launch point for the Cinque Terra. There are 5 towns, and we went to the last town first, then worked our way back - there are also walking trails - in my opinion town 4 and 5 Monteresso Al Mare and Vernazza are the prettiest. Buona Fortuna.

Hello, Jeff
I have just returned from two nights in Riomaggiore - the Cinque Terre venue is awesome. When you arrive La Spezia, look on the departures board for trains to Levanto - there are "semi-express" that will bypass three of the Cinque towns (Manarola, Corniglia, and Vernazza) and "locals" that stop at all towns. They run frequently - to Riomaggiore is a blazing 8 minute ride!!

Go to the Cinque Terre National PArk office at La Spezia station and purchase a Cinque Terre Card - 3 day card is 13 euro and permits you unlimited rides on any train between La Spezia and Levanto. It also allows you free access to any of the trails within the park.

Each of the 5 towns has their own character - we loved Riomaggiore and the Hotel Argentina is a nice accommodation. If I can be of more help, let me know.

Bob

Train is the way to get there and get between the 5 towns. We stayed for 6 days in Riomaggiore and loved every second. There is a great mix of people who visit and live there, and you'll find great food and fluid everywhere. I'd recommend you arrange accommodation before you arrive. I used Mar Mar http://www.5terre-marmar.com

If you're after some night life Bar Centrale, right in the centre of the main street, really grooves on from about 8.30pm till 1.00am when everyone heads to the beach. Say hi to Evo for me.

If you'd prefer to just kick back and relax well youll be able to do that too.

You'll love it.
