Zeebrugge Train from Zeebrugge to Brussels
Posted: Sat June 10, 2006 01:45 PM UTC
Is there any direct train from Zeebrugge to Brussels and how frequently?
My cruise ship will dock @ 8:00 a.m. and sail at @ 5:00 p.m., will I have enough time to do a day trip from Zeebrugge to Brussels by train?

Not quite as you must change in Brugge. It's hourly and takes 1h20 minutes to Bruxelles Gare du Midi, which I think is where the train from Zeebrugge Strand (Zeebrugge beach) stops, although you can catch any number of trains from there to Gare centrale which is close to the Grand' Place (and you don't need to buy another ticket, your ticket will be to "Brussels Zone", so covers any Brussels station).
So you could have 3-4 hours in Brussels, although if you haven't been to Brugge that would be a better bet.
There are departures from Zeebrugge Strand to Bruxelles Midi at 08.15 and 09.15, arr. 09.50 and 10.50 respectively. To return by 17.00, the last possible train is at 15.10, arr. 16.45, the one before that at 14.10. These are timings from the Gare du Midi, I didn't play around with departures from Gare centrale where I think you arrive at Zeebrugge Dorp (first, at least). Anyway, play around with this: http://plannerint.b-rail.be/bin/query.exe/en?L=b-rail& (departure station Zeebrugge Strand, arrival either Bruxelles Midi for fastest route, or Bruxelles Midi to be closest to Grand' Place. When you arrive at the Gare du Midi, the GP is less than 10 minutes walk away down the hill.

I don't know where the cruise ship will dock. But I know that it's quite some 'walk' from the ferry-terminal to the trainstation (> 30 minutes). There are bus-coaches that operate from the ferry-terminal to Bruges-train-staion... but I don't have any hours...
