| Amalfi | Treks from Maiori or other near places Posted: Fri June 9, 2006 01:31 PM UTC
I am going to spend a few days in Maiori in the end of June. I would like to make trips in the mountains around. Could you give me a tip (monasteries, nice views, etc.)? Thanks

From Maiori, head for Ravello. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been with incredible views (and the best meal we had on the Amalfi Coast). There are multiple VT pages (including mine) which show off this village. Also, west of Amalfi, visit Furore for which there are also a few pages and is very nice.

There are so many tracks you can use along the Amalfi coast!
From Amalfi for example you could go along a track that will lead you to the old paper mills and then up in a valley that's just outside the town with rivers and waterfalls and trees. It's about 12 km, not difficult but sometimes steep. Or visit the tiny village of Montepertuso, close to Positano. A short and panoramic track will lead you in about 30 minutes from Montepertuso to Nocelle alond what's called "Sentiero degli Dei" (Gods Track) Don't miss a visit to Ravello (also nice walks from there, a nice one to the San Nicola Monastery, about 2 hours) and Furore. From Ravello you can also walk down to the seashore. it's a very scenic path, easy and short, about 30 minutes walking. A longer track will lead you from Amalfi to Campidoglio di Scala, using part of the track that was first mentioned in this post. Greetings G.

Thank you very much - I have been there a few times and I visited Ravello (of course), St. Lazzaro, and St. Nicola and other places. But I saw another old monastery in mountains on the east from Maiori - I would like to visit it but I do not know where to start the trek. I have also trekking map of Sorrentina but only the west part starting from Maiori - do you think that I can buy somewhere a similar map for the east part of the region (from Maiori to Salerno). Or do you know about a web site dedicated to the trekking there?
Thank you very much once more.

http://www.amalficoastweb.com/hiking_trekking_cost http://www.lerkaminerka.com/homepage.html It will be a bit hard for you to find pages in English...:) You can surely find maps here. In Salerno there are good bookshops where you can find whatever you need. If you have troubles in translating the pages, let me kow and I'll try to help you. Greetings G.
