Province of New Brunswick June family vacation
Posted: Fri June 9, 2006 12:43 AM UTC
We are traveling to New Brunswick and Maine for a week at the end of June. We are flying into Bangor, Maine on a Saturday. We then want to see as much of eastern New Brunswick as we can. We are then going on to Acadia and Bar Harbor for a few days and leaving from there. I have booked a hotel in Saint John. I have also been looking at Moncton. My questions are:
1. In what order would you travel?
2. How many days would you spend in each location?
3. Would you do more day trips from Moncton or Saint John?
4. Are there other places reasonably close (less than 100 miles) that we should also try to see?
5. Where is the best place to stay to see Fundy National Park and Hopewell rocks?
Thank you so much in advance for your help

Bangor is about a 3-hour drive away from Fredericton, NB via I-95 through Houlton and it is quite a scenic route on a divided highway almost the entire way. Fredericton is a beautiful city on the Saint John River and well worth seeing. From there, a 1.5 hour drive will get you to Moncton, a vibrant French-Acadian city with lots going on. It is also a good place from which to visit the Hopewell Rocks and Fundy National Park along the Bay of Fundy coast. It is a bit of a long drive for a day-trip to the Park so you might be better off trying to get accommodations at Alma or in Fundy NP itself if you want to spend some time there. Once finished, you can drive out of the NP to the pretty town of Sussex located in a nice river valley that will take you onward to Saint John. It should be noted that the cold waters of the Bay of Fundy can produce morning fog along the coast at both Fundy NP and Saint John depending on the weather conditions. Continue from Saint John along the coast to St. Andrews, a beautiful little resort town worth a stop. Cross the border into Maine at Calais and take the coastal route through remote southeastern Maine and you will end up at Bar Harbor and Acadia NP - the most direct way to get there from southern NB.

Let me know if you need any further clarifications.
