A very relaxed way to visit Edfu is by boat. Take a 4 day cruise to Aswan and visit Edfu and Kom Ombo while sailing the Nile. Cruises aren't that expensive as you might think. I heared of someone who booked one for about a 100$. That for 4 days full board is cheap. You can book a cruise with any travel agent in Luxor, but you can also just board a ship, ask for the manager and ask him if there are vacant cabins. Haggle for the price. I am quite sure you can get a bargain. Any empty cabin is only costing money.
If you are adventurous you can take a felluca "cruise" to Edfu, but therefore you need to go by car to Esna and try to get a felluca from there, because felluca's can't cross the lock near Esna. Or take the train to Aswan and get a felluca there. Felluca's are typical Egyptian sailing boats. It is like camping. You will sleep on deck in the open air and the skipper will cook your meals. There are no sanitary devices on board, so it is a little "basic". But quite an adventure as I am told.
When in Luxor you might also consider a trip to Abydos and Denderra. Abydos is THE place to be if you are interested in the Osiris cult. Denderra is famous for its Hathor Tempel with the renowned Zodiac. In fact this Hathor Tempel is connected to the Horus tempel in Edfu, since the myths say that Hathor was the wife of Horus, as well as his foster mother.
Good luck, Dora.
