Yes..definitely not the phone and the video camera only if you have prior permission from the North Korean government (which they can still revoke at customs).

maybe i'm a little naive, but how in the world are you going to get into north korea in the first place? i know it's posible, but they're not too keen on tourists to begin with.

Actually Grumpy, they have a fairly "robust" (for North Korea) tourist industry. There are tours via China and from South Korea. There is even a crusie ship that goes up and the tourist go to Mt. Kumgang. The ship is called the Kumgang-ho. FYI, the ship (Hyundai owns it) was once the actual "Love Boat" from the TV series. Hyundai renamed it when they bought it and refitted it. Now about those tours...they are pretty canned, and you just can't go wandering around by yourself (unless you want to become a permanent resident). North Korea is keen on anything that makes them some money and tourism is just another avenue.

Americans can go, but getting a Visa is really difficult for Americans (we are all spies remember?). I cannot ever go due to my government affiliation. I would really like to sample the famous Wonsan gasoline-baked clams!

the whole nuke thing is hillarious. i live in hawaii and we're under an advisory but kim's missiles are a joke... he calls them successful yet they barely made it to the sea of japan.

i'd go and visit just to go to a different place but i dont think the cost is worth it. for the same price i can visit more deserving places and get more out of it. north korea is an enigma in todays world.

Phones are held when you enter but video cameras are no problem. Lots of tourists had them.
