Posted: Mon June 5, 2006 12:03 PM UTC
Hi,

I will travel to Peru thuesday 8 june and will return back 26 june.
Two days ago I understand that the passport must be valid 6 months after departure from Peru. My passport is only 3 month valid after leaving Peru.

What happen when I arrived in Peru with the emigration??
Can I fix something there with the embassy of Peru???
Please I need help!!!!

If the migration office of the country you are departing does their job well they will prevent you from taking the plane to fly to Peru.

You need always to be aware of the date your passport is due. Some countries ask for even more time.

I suggest you to go to the Peruvian Consulate with your passport and get the information from the source.

i'd say forget the peruvian consulate...you need to go to your home passport office and get an emergency one issued. not sure what passport you hold, but US passport office will give you a new one (well, renewal) usually within a day if you're flying out in a matter of days.

It's got nothing to do with any embassy of Peru, which can neither help you get a new passport nor waive this requirement, if you contact the nearest Peruvian embassy they will merely confirm that you need a passport that is valid for a further 3 months. What you do need is to obtain a new passport urgently, from your national authorities (procedures for doing that vary from country to country so I don't know how it is in your country - basically you go back to wherever the passport was issued). In my opinion you won't arrive in Peru, as the airline shouldn't let you board the plane if they can see you don't meet Peru's entry conditions. If by any chance they let you on board, you risk Peruvian IMMIGRATION officials turning you back, so you wouldn't be allowed to leave the airport. I'm afraid you may have to delay your trip to allow time to get a new passport, so contact the airline now.

Hi Folks,

Thank you for all for reply to my mail.
It's better to cancel my trip to Peru and put it later on. :-(
It's true that it's too risky trying to go and miss my trip.

(I'm from Curaçao Netherland Antilles)

Thank you all again!!

Hi Folks,

It will take 2 weeks to get a new passport. This is so because our passport have to be sent to Netherland to make a new one. :-(
I have make contact with my travel agency and I could pospone my ticket.
So I decide to pospone it for trip 22 of june.

I think that is the best decision. Thank you Folks. ;-)

Angel

Sometimes is better to check every possible way around a problem. Peru is one of the few countries that does not require that passports are valid for 6 months, I am afraid you didn't have to postpone your trip. Any peruvian consulate would have answered your question should you have just dialed their number.

btw, changing passports just before a trip is something very risky if you are booked on the inca trail. If your passport number doesn't match the information provided by your inca trail operator (usually forwarded some months in advance), the park guards simply turn you down at the gates of the trail.

ALWAYS NOTIFY YOUR INCATRAIL OPERATOR of any change of passport !!!!
