Meteora Travel Forum

Hi everyone!
We plan to go to Meteora and since we have quite tight schedule on Greece, taking night train/bus will be a good idea to save some hours. We will arrive around 6pm in Athens and plan to go directly to Meteora. Does anyone know whether there is night train/bus from Athens to Trikala or somewhere close to Meteora? Otherwise we have to stay overnight in Athens and use the early bus/train to Trikala. Any information on the earliest bus/train will also be helpful.

Hi Dhina,
I checked the train timetables for you at www.ose.gr, and I didn't find one after 6pm. I'm quite confident you can find a bus connection, only I wasn't able to find it on the bus companies' website. Here is the telephone number of the Trikala bus station in Athens,(+30)210-8311434 and (+30)210-8317102, you can call and ask for the timetables. In case you want to find out about connections from Trikala to Kalambaka (the city closest to Meteora, about 40 minutes' drive from Trikala), here is the telephone number of the bus station in Trikala (+30)24310-73130.

Other question :-P, do you know how to go to Delphi from Meteora? I checked the bus website at http://www.diadiktion.com/greekbus.htm, but could not find Delphi there :-(.

I'm afraid I can't help you with Delphi at all..i've only been there once on a high-school excursion, many years ago :-) maybe another greek VTer can help?

but I just found delphi in the website you mentioned :-D the region is Fokida and it the city is spelled Delphoi.

for timetables you can check at www.ktel.gr. This is the company for all the intercity bus routes in Greece. Unfortunately there is no direct connection from Kalambaka to Delphoi. You can check other cities like Amfissa which is 20 or 30 klm for Delphoi. There is one bus tha starts from Thessaloniki and goes to Patra. It makes stops to Kalampaka kai Amfissa. From Amfissa you should take another bus to Delphoi or to Athens that makes a stop to Delphoi.
