| Isle of Wight | Ferry + B&B Posted: Thu June 1, 2006 04:59 PM UTC
Do I need to make reservations for the ferry to the Isle of Wight? Can anyone recommend a nice B&B (with private bathroom and parking for motorcycles) for about £50 per room?
Thanks |

We were there about a month ago. Yes.. do make ferry reservations, especially now that the summer season is beginning. It was quiet the morning we went over, and they let us on an earlier boat which was very helpful. We booked the ferry by using the website - http://www.wightindex.com/travel/index.asp
I've got some photos on a page here if you want to take a look. Our B&B cost a bit more (it was a birthday gift), but there are tons on the island. The eastern coast seemed the most lively area.

Online bookings for the Portsmouth or Lymington route can be made at:
http://www.wightlink.co.uk/ look out for special offers, the web price should give you a discount on the "turn up and buy a ticket price" In the summer cars should be advance booked, as little as 24 hours will give you a discount. Motorcycles - just ride past all the queueing cars and pull up beyond the car queues. If you have not pre booked go to the terminal building and buy a ticket, you should travel on the next departure even in the height of the summer. We usually stay in self catering or hotels, so not sure about a B&B, but there is lots of holiday accommodation on the island (look out for the booklet on the ferry). I would expect that you could cruise around and find somewhere quite easily. The nicest motorcyling road is between Niton/Blackgang in the south and Freshwater Bay in the west.
