Valletta RCCL Cruise arriving in Valletta 6/26
Posted: Tue June 17, 2003 12:38 AM UTC
We will arrive in Valletta on 6/26, coming in on a cruise. Any suggestions of what to see, and how to do it in an interesting way without the baggage of a large tour group?

Take the buses. By the way, they all speak English.

Malta is quite small so you can visit most of it by bus. If you are coming on a cruise, you will be located quite centrally. If you just walk up the hill from where the ship is berthed you can visit Valletta(the capital city) and from there take any bus route which you like

Are you there for just a day or longer? Valletta is a fantastic city for wandering around, one of the best preserved Mediterranean fortified cities of the age. Away from the main streets and squares it's easy to roam alone with little more than a stray cat and sea breeze for company. All buses call at the city gates if you have the time for an excursion.

Pry into the churches. Take in the views from the gardens atop the walls near the city gates. Poke around the antiquities museum. March past the knights' armour in the presidential palace. Make pilgrimage to the saints on the street corners.

Plenty more ideas on my Malta pages!

Thanks for all the info everyone - it looks like Valletta is definitely worthwhile to see, and doable on our own.
