Would request feedback on Hotel Keylany in Aswan from those who've experienced/stayed there.

Also am getting a deal on a overnight trip by Private taxi from Aswan to Abu Simbel with hotel/entrance fees and return trip for $160 per person. Any comments on the package - cost, safety. This is through a travel agent called Hamis Travels from Cairo.

I staed in Keylany and was the only bad thing in Aswan. They have the worst staff ever and some of the rooms can be really bas especialy those in the ground floor where you can literaly here anything going on in the reception area. The sink was blocked. AC did not work. One word, dont stay there.

We stayed in the Keylany for a few days. We didn't have any problem with staff and found them all friendly and helpful, with the manager in particular helping us out with a number of little things that made our stay easier. Their rooftop retreat is a nice place to wind down after a hard day or sit and watch the sun rise and hear the morning prayer calls as you have breakfast.

The rooms are, well, basic, but what do you expect for the price. When we arrived we found that they'd booked us into a room with twin beds rather than the double we'd requested but they sorted that out quickly. The beds aren't great and the sheets are small but with the balmy night temperatues covering up wasn't a great issue. Given that all we really used the place for was to shower and sleep it saved us money that we could put to other use elsewhere.

I stayed at the Keylani, and I agree with the previous poster. Totally alright for the price. But also check out Nile Nuba hotel directly at the train station, maybe you like their rooms better. (I did.)

As for the tour, I would not take it. 160 USD is a total rip off for Egypt. It is a "tourist price", no sane Egyptian would pay it. If you are ready to leave your hotel at 3 am in Aswan and arrive back around 4 pm you can take the long tour with all the sights in and around Aswan including Philae Island (absolutely stunning) for 75 LE per person - that is less than 15 (fifteen!) USD. You still have to pay the entrance fees, but that is only around another 20 USD.

I would think very hard whether a private car is worth 100 USD per person! Not to mention that you can arrange for a private car yourself in Aswan. (The peole at the Keylani can help you.) If you do this you pay around 500 LE (90 USD) for the whole car with driver!
