Cres Ferry to Cres
Posted: Tue May 30, 2006 02:58 PM UTC
We are staying in Rovinj for a week from 30 July 2006 and then going to Cres on Sunday 6 august for another week. We want to get the ferry from Brestova to Cres on Sunday 6 August but have been told it will be very busy. Is this Sunday particularly busy - or is it just that it is high season? What time do members recommend we should be at the ferry and how long will it take to drive from Rovinj to Brestova (early morning)?
Many Thanks
Jim

I took that ferry last year and expected to wait to get in for hours, but we got in in the first. The ferries go non-stop so if they haven't changed anything from last year you probably won't wait long at all. Early morning should be ideal time, just check when the first one leaves, the drive from Rovinj to Brestova will probably take around 1,5 hour.

Hello Lana,

Thank you very much for the information - it is appreciated - and i'll make sure we get there early! Do you have any recommendations for Cres - good restaurants, beaches, places to visit, etc.

Jim

One of the places you defenitely should not miss is Lubenice. It is a small place on the top of the cliff with magnificent view and a beautiful beach beneath, where unfotunately have to go by foot (to the beach, Lubenice is reachable by car. Lubenice-http://www.chorvatsko.cz/galerie/lubenice.jpg , the beach- http://www.ff.uni-lj.si/publikacije/ucbeniki/mh/lubenice05.jpg . Sometimes during the summer concerts are held there, so if you check in the tourist agency in the place you are staying at for that, it would be a great experience.

Also Osor, an old place where the Romans built the canal between Cres and Losinj. Also great concerts of classical music there very often during summer, there is also a little street there where quite a few sculptures by the most famous Croatian sculptour Mestrovic, nice little museum with Roman artefacts.

Since you are on Cres you should also visit Losinj, they are connected with a small bridge, no fee to cross or anything. On Losinj I recommend Mali and Veli Losinj, specially Veli Losinjwhich is probably the most pitoresque place on both islands.

As for dining I don't know about Cres, but on Losinj I would recommend Baraka in Mali Losinj, Marina in Veli Losinj both on waterfront and Veli Zal in Suncana Uvala. All of them are mostly seafood resaturants.
