I personally prefer the coast a little further along, Blakeney through to Wells is just lovely and has a better class of restaurant. All the restaurants in Blakeney are great. From what I can remember in Cromer there are lots of fish and chip restaurants but can't recall any proper seafood places.

This is probably far too late for your friends but for future use: go to the Rocket House Cafe on the East Promenade in Cromer. You'll enjoy great local seafood and also wonderful views of the sea and the pier. 01263 519126 Or you could go for fish and chips in Garden Street. Enjoy.
