Foz do Iguaçu Buses between the falls and the pantanal?
Posted: Thu May 25, 2006 09:47 PM UTC
Hello - I would like to take a bus from Foz do Iguaçu to the pantanal. I know there are a few cities there and I think Campo Grande is the biggest. But so far I've not had any luck finding buses that run between the two in my guide books and on line. Before I book flights to get from the pantanal to Rio, I want to make sure I'll be able to get to campo grande etc in the first place! Any names of bus companies/website I can look into?
Thanks, Rose

Do you know how large Brasil is? And those two places are not exactly next to each other. It will take several days to go between those two points. I would highly consider flying. Either Varig or TAM, maybe both, offer Brasilian flight passes, which are four flight coupons for $400. If you insist on busing it, there is some kind of bus pass which allows you to ride the bus as many times within a certain period of time. I know nothing else about it.

Of course there are buses from Foz do Iguaçu to the southern Pantanal.
Do the following: take the bus in Foz do Iguaçu to Bonito (see internet, very good nature walks!) Eventually you have to take first to Dourados and further on
to Bonito.
From Bonito you have a bus directly to the Pantanal. The company "Cruzeiro do Sul" makes this trips. The trip is 35 reals and takes more or less 5 to 6 houres because of the sand ways.
Ask for "Buraco das Piranhas". This is the buspoint, every knows it there. From here you can get guides for taking you in the Pantanal.
See on: www.gilspantanaldiscovery.com.br
Or: www.pantanaltrekking.com
They do it for almost 40, Euro a day, all included.
Take contact with them via the site and make it clear to take you in "Buraco das Piranhas" and after to drop you in Campo Grande. Normally they do the inverse sens of the way.
If you cannot get the guides, take the bus than to Corumbà. There are several companies who will take you in the Pantanal;
Enjoy the Pantanal because it is the most beautiful region of South America.
For more info: contact me;
I am not connected to any company.
I lived there and made more than 30 trips in the Pantanal.
Regards.

A couple of years ago two companies ran buses between Foz do Iguacu and Campo Grande. Depending on the class of service, the travel time was 24 or more hours and the cost was R$113 to R$185. This is one link, though I don't know how current it is:

The falls are scenic and interesting. Campo Grande is interesting only as a jumping off point to the southern Pantanal.

Buses also run from Foz to Cuiaba, a more interesting city and gateway to the northern Pantanal.
